Jed Carpenter and Jordan McKie, Hoople shortlisted apprentices for Sunshine Pride Award

We are delighted to announce that Hoople apprentice, Jed Carpenter, was awarded the coveted ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award at last night’s Sunshine Pride Awards.

Jed undertook his level 2 apprenticeship in childcare through Hoople, employed at Lake View Nursery in Hereford.  A survivor of childhood cancer, Jed’s early experiences convinced him that he wanted to pursue a career in childcare. His apprenticeship provided him with the opportunity to pursue his dream and he remains committed to a career working with and supporting children.  Since completing his level 2 qualification, Jed has continued to be employed at Lake View.

On receiving his award, Jed said: “It was a really proud moment for me and my family when I was announced as the winner for Young Apprentice of the Year. After a tough start in life, battling leukaemia at nine years old, it means the world to me that not only am I able to work in a sector that I am extremely passionate about, but I have also been recognised for my achievements. Thank you to all those who made this possible.”

Lake View’s Deputy Manager, Jemma Slane, added: “We are all extremely proud of Jed. He has come so far since starting with us last year, so much so that we have now employed him as a fully fledged member of the Lake View family! He's very popular with all of the children, the families and our staff and they are also delighted with his latest achievement. We're over the moon to have such a talented young apprentice with us and would definitely recommend using apprenticeship schemes to other nurseries.”

Jed was joined at the ceremony by fellow Hoople apprentice, Jordan Mckie. Jordan has recently completed his level 2 apprenticeship in business and administration, based in Hoople’s HR department, and was also one of the three shortlisted candidates for the Sunshine Pride Apprentice of the Year Award.

Hoople is thrilled that both apprentices have been recognised in this way.  Training and Education Service Manager, Roger Clarke, says: “Jed and Jordan have excelled throughout the year in their work placements and in their assessments at Hoople’s training centre. We are very proud of their achievements and wish them continued success in their future careers.”
