Grade: HC5

Location: PRU Sites (St Davids and Aconbury) and Outdoor Learning/Forest School Sites 

Organisational information:

Responsible to: Deputy Head and Behaviour Support Practitioner   

Professionally Responsible to: Head Teacher

Main Purpose of Job:

  • To act as a mentor to pupils helping them to improve their attendance and engagement in learning and develop positive behaviours in and out of school. 

Main Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • To complement the roles of teachers and other school support staff in helping pupils to overcome barriers to attendance and engagement in learning as well as facilitate positive behaviour.
  • Provide short term intervention and engagement strategies during the school day that help pupils reengage with learning and improve classroom attendance.
  • Utilising distraction and engagement strategies with pupils who are displaying disruptive behaviour. 
  • Working with teachers and support staff to support the delivery of individual learning/behaviour plans which could include working with small groups, 1:1 mentoring and coaching to pupils that focusses on removing perceived barriers to attendance and encourages positive behaviour choices.
  • Work with staff and students to ensure positive attitudes to learning and safe and respectful behaviour around the school.  This will include supporting staff in maintaining the agreed pupil codes of conduct, intervention work with individuals or small groups; working alongside students in lessons where appropriate and managing sanctions such as temporary isolation and reflective work.
  • Coordinate and engage in enrichment activities.
  • Support in the coordination of pupil reward and recognition initiatives.
  • Carry out relevant administrative tasks such as behaviour reports, completing incident forms and providing feedback for reports.
