We’re looking for people with significant experience of working with children with complex needs to step up and make a life-changing difference.
What is a Specialist Foster Carer?

This self‑employed role involves supporting children with a range of needs and complexities in your home.
A Specialist Foster Carer offers a variety of fostering types, including caring for those who are transitioning into foster care from residential settings, parent and child fostering that supports both children and parents together and specialist Overnight Short Breaks for children with complex disabilities.
In return, you will receive good remuneration, full training and support, and the satisfaction of making a huge difference to someone’s life.

This is not an employed role with Herefordshire Council. Specialist Foster Carers are self-employed and are approved to provide care and support in their own home.
What You’ll Receive

· £1000 per week fostering fees for your skills (2026–27 rates)
· A fostering allowance for the young people in your care
· Bespoke, 24/7 support from the fostering team and therapeutic Safe Connections service
· 100% Council Tax exemption
Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need formal qualifications or previous care experience. We welcome people from all backgrounds who have:
- Significant experience of managing complex and challenging behaviour
- Expertise of supporting vulnerable children with complex needs
- An understanding of the importance of attachments and child development
- The ability to reflect and adapt to the changing needs of the children they support
- The time to commit to intensively supporting children and young people
- A commitment to ongoing specialist training and development
