Job details

The Governors and Headteacher are seeking to appoint an inspirational and talented Teacher of Physical Education to join us. We welcome applications from both experienced teachers and ECTs. Due to the nature of this role there is an occupational requirement for us to recruit a male candidate.

This is a great time to be joining our school as we continue to build on our significant strengths and successes. We offer a school which is welcoming with colleagues who are enthusiastic and committed to achieving the best for students.

We are proud of our PE department, which plays a central role in the life of the school. You should have a passion for challenging students to achieve their best possible outcomes through inclusive learning and be able to teach core PE across the ability range from KS3 to KS4. An ability to teach GCSE (or equivalent) Physical Education is an advantage.

The successful candidate will:

  • be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a proven track record in raising standards.
  • have enthusiasm and a strong commitment to achievement, safeguarding and welfare of all students.
  • have humour, perspective and an ability to bring out the best in others.
  • be able to teach a diverse range of sports including rugby, football and handball.
  • be committed to CPD linked to teaching, learning and subject specific knowledge and skills.
  • help drive the vast extra-curricular programme.
  • a willingness to go ‘above and beyond’ to support the department vision of providing an accessible curriculum to all whilst striving for excellence.

Our school is a vibrant place to work with enthusiastic students who are keen to learn and engage actively in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

Our dedicated Physical Education facilities include a large sports hall and separate sports gym. A fitness room with fitness equipment, Tennis courts (handball) and a sports field on the main site. A second, very large, school sports field is located 3 minutes walk from our main site and has a dedicated Sports Pavillion.

Over the summer we plan to re-develop our Fitness Suite and Sports Hall area at a cost of nearly £1.2 million. The new facilities should be ready for use in November 2025 subject to authorisation.

Our PE department is a point of pride within the school, having recently secured over £45,000 in successful funding bids. Leading the way with a thriving Sports Leaders programme, our young leaders have hosted 250 primary-aged girls for football festivals, as well as launching our first-ever inclusion Festival. We are proud to have been named the best school for football in the county, while continuing to build on our strong and consistent performance in rugby and netball.

If you have enthusiasm, strong subject knowledge and a passion for teaching, this position provides an opportunity to make a difference to our community, and an opportunity to work collaboratively in a successful team.

Ofsted 2021 rated ‘Good’ in all areas stated that “The school has a culture of continuous improvement. Senior leaders and governors are passionate about giving pupils the best education and care possible. This commitment permeates throughout the school”

SIAMs 2018 stated that ‘Pastoral care is exemplary.’

This post carries a requirement for an Enhanced disclosure (under the provisions of the Police Act 1997).  The school will require you to give permission to carry out a disclosure.
