MPS/UPS + SEN Allowance

Herefordshire Pupil Referral Service (HPRS) provides education to pupils unable to attend mainstream school for various reasons. The service is currently split over three sites located within Hereford City – St David’s Centre (KS4), The Aconbury Centre (KS3) and H3 (Hospital, Home, Hub Teaching Team). This post is for a SENDCo to work across all three sites.

We provide a safe, secure and welcoming learning environment in which young people can grow as responsible, independent and self-confident learners.  This is a rare opportunity to work alongside a dedicated team of school leaders and educational experts across HPRS. Whether aspiring to be or already qualified as a SENDCo, you will be responsible for continuing to develop and lead our SEND provision, ensuring that the service meets its statutory responsibilities in line with the Code of Practice and to ensure that barriers to learning are removed to enable pupils to achieve their ambitions.  This role also includes being the Designated Teacher for Children Looked After and the Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Lead across the service.

We are looking for an individual who has:

  • A strong commitment to raising educational attainment for children and young people with SEND, including working with pupils directly and supporting other staff to do so.
  • The ability to influence school strategy and policy, secure sufficient internal resources and work collaboratively with external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils.
  • The motivation to inspire teachers across the service, model good practice, deliver training and develop whole school commitment to supporting pupils with SEND.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents/carers, teachers and external agencies.
  • Empathy and emotional intelligence.
  • If unqualified has a willingness to start to work towards the SEND qualification within the first year of employment, for which support will be given.

HPRS is committed to the protection and safety of its pupils and therefore all successful candidates will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check at enhanced level.  Shortlisted candidates will be subject to an on-line Google search.
