Revenues & Benefits

Revenues and Benefits is an award-winning department with over 65 members of staff delivering a range of statutory services on behalf of Herefordshire Council. The majority of our work is based on strict legislation; with Central Government and Department of Works & Pensions (DWP) instructions and initiatives covering everything from billing and collection of Council Tax, through to processing and administration for free school meals.

Our services

  • Debt Collection & Invoicing

    Our experienced and knowledgeable debt collection team use proactive systems and procedures to ensure efficient debt recovery. This includes the recovery of overpaid Housing Benefit, making sure it is recovered effectively whilst paying special care and attention to vulnerable claimants.

  • Council Tax

    The efficient and friendly team recover overdue Council Tax in accordance with legislative requirements, ensuring that entitlement to discounts, exemptions and Council Tax Reduction are claimed, as well as identifying new dwellings and property changes that need referring to the Valuation Office Agency.

  • Business Rates

    The team work with individual and business taxpayers to manage their payments in accordance with statutory requirements. This can include anything from issuing annual bills and identifying new non-domestic properties, to processing discounts and exemptions where relevant.

    We process claims and changes to help people with their rent payments if they are on a low income. We also process Discretionary Housing Payments for people suffering financial difficulty.

  • Free School Meals

    We deal with the administration and processing of free school meal applications for Herefordshire schools, providing prompt assessment of all applications and processing confirmation of entitlements. Our specialist software captures the relevant entitlement information and links into the DWP and HMRC systems.
